Why You Need to Activate Your Card
Activation is a security measure. When Capital One mails you a new card, it arrives in an inactive state. This protects you in case the card is lost or stolen before it reaches you. Until you activate it, the card cannot be used for any transactions. Once you activate your card at capitalone.com/activate, you can:- Make purchases in stores, online, and over the phone
- Withdraw cash from ATMs
- Add your card to Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay
- Earn rewards on eligible purchases immediately
What You Need to Get Started
Before heading to capitalone.com/activate, make sure you have:- Your new Capital One card (physical card in hand)
- Your card number (16 digits on the front)
- Your date of birth and Social Security Number (last 4 digits) for identity verification
- Access to your Capital One online account (or be ready to create one)
If you do not yet have a Capital One online account, you can create one as part of the activation process. Select Enroll & activate on the activation page.
What Happens After Activation
Once you complete activation, your card is immediately ready to use. Capital One will confirm activation on-screen and may send a confirmation email or text. You can then:- Sign in at capitalone.com to manage your card
- Add your card to Apple Pay, Google Pay, or Samsung Pay for contactless payments
- Review your credit limit, due dates, and rewards balance
